Exhibition at the Museum of Photography in Tallinn, Estonia

Kaisa Männik #NewYorkNewYork 13.02-30.04.2018

Kaisa Männik has been active in photography for over ten years. Her love for photography began with travelling and she is foremost interested in exploring urban landscapes.

The exhibition has been influenced by both traditional black and white street photography and by social media. Instead of using titles, the pictures are brought to life by hashtags. By combining the photos with hashtags, it is possible to tell various stories. Sounds of New York recorded by Kaisa and music composed by Marco Völker create an audio background for the exhibition.

The author adds that #NewYorkNewYork is like a small walk in a big city. There are no photos of famous landmarks or skyscrapers, but moments that can easily go unnoticed if one is in a rush. Small details and people running their daily errands create an atmosphere unique to every city, often fascinating the author more than top tourist attractions.

As a member of Nõmme Noortemaja photo club since 2016, Kaisa has become more involved in analogue photography which has also led to the exhibition here. The thirteen gelatin silver prints on display have been taken in New York during 2016-2017 and have been developed by the author herself.
